World Oceans Day and Support to Partners
World Environment Day, June 8th 2023, saw the launch of the MENA Oceans Summit 2023, organised by Goumbook under the patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
The MENA Oceans Summit is the first dedicated forum in the MENA region focused on;
- Accelerating the pace of comprehensive clean ocean action
- Conserve and restore ocean ecosystems.
- Tackle climate change
- Ensure the development of blue economies within sustainable frameworks.
The Summit brought together global leaders, policymakers, researchers, the private sector, and the larger community.
The Summit had representation from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism. Key themes shared at the meeting included:
- Creating opportunities to protect natural capital and exploring the local heritages, and communities ( Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts Turtle Rehabilitation Project)
- Engaging with visitors to raise awareness and understand their attitudes on sustainability (Atlantis Marine and Sustainability Initiatives)
- Bringing end-users, travellers, and visitors on a journey that will make them change their daily habits (#DubaiCan)
- Following the Dubai 19 sustainable guidelines for hospitality to improve on sustainability measures
We are always proud to support our sustainability community, and heartfelt congratulations go to Tatiana Antonelli Abella and the team at Goumbook for yet another inspiring and impactful event.
