In February 2024, TRYP by Wyndham Dubai achieved the Wyndham Green Level 5 Certification, the program’s highest distinction. This achievement marks the hotel as a leader in environmental stewardship, showcasing its commitment to a sustainable future while enhancing guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Yallappa Anjinappa, Cluster Director of Engineering at TRYP by Wyndham Dubai, celebrated the achievement and announced “I am incredibly proud of our entire team for this remarkable accomplishment. This recognition is a testament to our commitment to sustainable practices and positions us as a leader in eco-conscious hospitality within the MEA region.”

First opening in 2017, the hotel property started out from “Level 1: Core” of the progressive certification process, where requirements included basics such as towel and linen reuse which can be found as a standard in most hotel properties. But in a few short years and with some strategic planning, monitoring, and action, as well as support from the team at Sustainability Kiosk, the property quickly moved up the ranks from “Level 2: Essential”, “Level 3: Proficient”, “Level 4: Advanced”, all the way to “Level 5: Expert” which includes advanced recycling and food composting, often an extra mile that many properties struggle with.

The return on investment has been undeniable, as the certification process led to the following results with measurable impacts:

    • Energy Savings: Reduced electricity consumption by 5% year-on-year (from 2022-2023)
    • Waste Diversion: Diverted 207 tons of waste from landfills with waste diversion currently at 25% (from Q3 2023 to Q2 2024)
    • Waste management charges: Halved over time, leading to cost savings of AED 60,000.
    • Plastic reduction: AED 80,000 saved annually from replacing single-use plastic bottles to on-site water filtration.
