As a leading government-run hospital in the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital faced a challenge common to many hospitality and healthcare facilities in the region: intense solar heat entering through large glass façades, especially in patient and visitor waiting areas. This not only impacted indoor comfort but also increased reliance on air conditioning systems, leading to higher energy costs.
To address this, SKSH partnered with Leading Hospitality Services (LHS) to install i2Film, an advanced solar control window film that cuts infrared heat without blocking natural light. The solution required no glass replacement or disruption to hospital operations, making it ideal for a live, patient-focused environment.
Within days of installation, the impact was visible. The indoor temperature in previously overheated areas dropped noticeably, glare was reduced, and the overall ambiance became cooler and more welcoming for patients and visitors alike. Most importantly, the hospital experienced a measurable reduction in HVAC load in the treated zones—supporting its ongoing sustainability goals and operational efficiency.
The results were measurable:
The solution is expected to save over 104,000 kWh of energy annually, with estimated cost savings of between AED 30,000 and AED 40,000—just from the application around the lobby area. It also contributes to a reduction of 42 tons of CO₂ emissions.
The success at SKSH demonstrates how i2Film offers a cost-effective, non-intrusive retrofit solution for hospitality and healthcare facilities looking to improve comfort, aesthetics, and energy performance—without major infrastructure changes.
